Genshin Impact Beginner Guide: 15 Essential Tips

New to Genshin Impact? These 15 beginner tips cover wishes, primogems, team building, resin, and the mistakes every new player makes.

Genshin Impact is one of the biggest free games on the planet — and it hides a lot of systems from new players. These 15 tips will save you weeks of mistakes.

Getting Started Right

1. Don't spend primogems on standard wishes. Save them for limited banners. The 5-star you want lives there.

2. Level your main DPS first. Resources are scarce early. One strong carry beats four mediocre characters.

3. Claim every free character. The game gives away multiple characters through events and story — that's your early roster.

4. Unlock teleport points before exploring. The map is huge; waypoints save hours.

5. Do the events. Limited events give primogems, upgrade materials, and sometimes free 4-star characters.

Combat & Teams

6. Learn elemental reactions. Genshin is a reaction game: Vaporize (Pyro+Hydro) and Melt (Pyro+Cryo) multiply damage hard.

7. Build one team of four, not eight half-built ones. Focus wins.

8. Artifacts > character level > talents. Prioritize in that order once you hit AR45.

9. Don't farm artifacts before AR45. Before that, guaranteed 5-star artifact drops don't exist. Use what you find.

10. The free characters can clear everything. Floor 12 of Spiral Abyss has been cleared with 4-stars only. Skill > roster.

Resources & Economy

11. Spend resin daily. It caps out and stops regenerating. Even logging in for 5 minutes to spend it keeps you efficient.

12. Condensed resin is your friend. Craft it, save runs for later.

13. Battle Pass and events are your main primogem income as a free player. Play consistently, not intensely.

14. Explorer every statue and chest. Exploration primogems fund your wishes early on.

15. Play at your own pace. Genshin respects patient players — everything is clearable without spending.
